Great overall product. Cool product with free video tutorial examples under the "Help" icon while using the software, but this is definitely not for beginners unless you really know your construction work. I would rather higher someone to use this for me. Really advanced software and I'm a beginner. Inches, centimeters, etc.
I just started using Punch for Mac and ran into a huge problem right away. I wanted to enter information on my existing house that sits on an existing site to do remodeling of both the interior and exterior spaces. That is, defining the property lines and orienting the house on the site. Most of us don't live on acres and acres of land where the property lines are unimportant. The program makes assumptions that just aren't applicable in my situation. I'm going back to hand drafting, at least for the exterior elements. Entering property line information using the bearings and distances on a record map would make setting the boundaries much easier than trying to pull the lines to distance and angle. No, my property is not rectangular and, yes, there is a curve on one side.
Not the greatest library of furniture. I emailed them asking if there were other libraries available & they never responded. Decent program.Definately worth the price as there is little to choose from in this low end price range. Fairly easy to learn. Emailed them with no response. Can export 3D view but found no way to export or print plan view.
Yeah if you want to manually drag the texture to each shape (about 30) that make up each cabinet. you cannot move objects in a 3d view, only over head. Let me first say that I am a graphics professional, with image, video, and 3D modeling and animation background.
What about wood type and color. lighting and shadowing in rendered scenes is not even close to accurate (based on how objects are drawn from what I can tell). The assistant has 4 steps, 1 pick cabinet type, 2 pick the direction the cabinet should face, 3 pick sizes and door style (shaker or raised panel) and your done. Sure I can manually "paint" each cabinet but it seems to me that you should be able to layout the basic cabinets in your layout, and then globally choose a style/color for the entire kitchen. What about the other 10-20 styles of cabinet doors.
So then I use the custom workshop pro, where you can place any material on any object, and I think cool I can just texture each size and shape I need as needed. Funny though not all cabinet shapes and sizes are there in all 3 colors. I am sorely disappointed. Don't get me wrong you can import image files.as image planes, but not as textures. perhaps the pc version is better but overall this product sucks Then I try the cabinet assistant, this should work for me right.wrong. For example there may be a dark raised panel base cabinet, but not a light colored one.
So I did not expect incredible quality or even an easy to use program. measuring is by default done by measuring to the center of walls, not how I would measure my real space (wall to wall). Object library is stupid. First off YOU CANNOT IMPORT YOUR OWN TEXTURES.
moving in 3d "live view" is difficult at best. But this thing is ridiculous. I haven't even began to try and use any of the other "features" but I'm sure most of the program is as obtuse as the features I did try.
We are doing our kitchen and I was hoping to visualize materials, but even with a pretty extensive library of materials (I found the granite we wanted to use for counters), I could not import our tile options for the backsplash, and other things. 3 types of cabinets, categorized under lt cabinets and dk cabinets.
The ease of use is phenomenal. I wish the Pro Series had more features and tools. The CAD tools that come with it are BS. It is incredibly easy to get started, design, and see the final product. It does take a little longer to learn more intricate functions, but all around it's very simple. If they added a few more features this would be a slam dunk.
