PartitionMagic is a lot more these days than a simple partitioning tool for hard drives. In fact, PartitionMagic 8.0 can repartition your hard drive, set up multiple operating systems, and even perform scheduled backups to protect your data. The core program, which can be run from Windows or in DOS mode directly from a boot floppy, enables you to change the size of existing partitions, create new partitions, merge two partitions into one, and more. This is all achieved in a logical and straightforward way, using a new group of wizards and a number of safety checks to make sure you do what you intended. Any of the changes you make occur without disturbing any data you already have on your hard drive. The program can handle IDE and SCSI hard drives, and this version adds external drives linked to USB 2.0 or FireWire ports. However, you will now need quite a bit of memory on your PC to run the program--128 MB in Windows XP, for example. BootMagic is bundled with PartitionMagic 8.0, and is a well-featured boot manager that enables you to install several different operating systems on your PC and switch between them at startup. Overall, PartitionMagic is a safe and effective way to protect your data and improve the efficiency of your PC. --Simon Williams, Amazon.co.uk
Partitioning your hard drive helps prevent system conflicts, protect data, improve efficiency, and increase performance. PowerQuest's PartitionMagic allows you to create, resize, move, split, merge, recover, and convert partitions quickly and easily, without harming your data. The new file browser in PartitionMagic 8.0 allows you to move files from one partition to another regardless of partition type. Step-by-step wizards let you view changes that will be made before applying them, and PowerQuest DataKeeper provides automatic file backup. PartitionMagic 8.0 also includes BootMagic, which enables you to safely run multiple operating systems on the same computer. Plus, this version offers support for partition sizes up to 160 GB, and lets you improve performance with more efficient cluster sizes. PartitionMagic lets you safely run multiple operating systems on the same PC. Migrate to the latest operating systems like Microsoft Windows XP or Linux at your own pace while keeping your current operating system intact. Use the Install Another OS wizard to easily create new partitions for additional operating systems. PartitionMagic also allows you to fine-tune your system performance by converting to a more efficient file system, changing cluster sizes, or adding a Linux SWAP file partition.

PartitionMagic 8.0 Reviews
The backup that was created and the data merge did not work. I used it on a client's computer. I bought Partitio Magic 8. It did not work and corrupted the hard drive.
Amen. (I also find it a much better system than the V-Com system that I have retired, and use PM 8.01 for ease and smoothness of operation). If that would help, I wonder if Symantes offers it. I am not sure if the 8.0 that is being sold here inlcudes the upgrade patch. I had downloaded a 13MB patch from PowerQuest that makes it 8.01. I wish those that have 8.0 and are having all the problems could get this patch. At one time Symantec was good. PowerQuest tech support was tops.
I have Pm 8.0 and I had upgraded BEFORE Symantec got hold of it. I backup by copying the partitions to two USB external drives.no problem. No problem there. I also have a second drive with FAT32 format. No problems when I resize, move, etc. I have a drive with XP pro as an NTFS OS. The people were friendly, knowlegeable and always solved any problem I had. My version works flawlessly.
I've spent hours trying to get it to resize my XP NTFS partition. If you aren't sure of that, you could end up paying quite a bit of money for an ugly coaster. I finally ended up just doing things the hard way, wiping the drive and building the partitions from scratch. None of the posted fixes help. When you pay this sort of money for a program that does one simple thing, you expect it to work. It keeps erroring out. Don't buy this unless you know for sure that it will work with your specific version of windows on your specific machine - down to the the precise model.
My version of 8.0, bought over the internet, came with a truncated serial number. I first bought PMagic at around version 3.0. Now that the Symantec Brothel owns PowerQuest, you can't get phone number to call nor does Customer "Service" answer mail. Because it breaks if you look at it funny. It was wonderful. It does NOT like Linux partitions, and if you try to remove one you get some error message that the table is corrupted, the new drive letter cannot be read, and there is not way to fix it. The attitude is "Thanks for the money, now eff you." Never again. With each new iteration, it has become increasingly incomprehensible and impossible to fix.
My review would be a word for word copy of the review titled, "One trashed hard disk later" dated: June 30, 2005, but that would be a waste of your time. I'll only say that I wish I had listened to this review instead of the positive ones, because that guy's experience is exactly what I am going through right now.
