McAfee Internet Security 2009 3-User Reviews
Comparing Internet Security 2009 to previous versions, I would certainly recommend it as an upgrade. It followed the usual steps of uninstalling older software packages and did it with ease, but I'm sure it was just luck in my case. Your previous experience with this brand and the price of the product should be among your deciding factors.
As for firewalls, it does a good job out of the box without too much hassle and blocking. Compared to its competition, it's really on par. McAfee Internet Security 2009 was decently quick during the installation and updating phases. I have used just about all of the consumer level security packages and I tend to stick with a single brand and McAfee is certainly a brand that you can trust. After a couple weeks of use, Internet Security 2009 has been running smoothly. It does not offer anything substantial above its competitors, nor does it offer any negatives. At the end of the day most people just want to know that their PC is protected. After the install and updating, I found the menus to be fairly easy to navigate.
While I did not expect much with McAfee Internet Security 2009 it did, at least, meet my expectations. Overall, its speed has been above par and resource usage has been relatively low. McAfee does a decent job of offering a compromise between simple, straight-forward menus and more complicated options should the user want them. I have not noticed too much of a slow down on my system and the software has not been too nagging with pop-ups and warnings. However, I personally feel that most anti-virus/internet security packages (McAfee included) offer too many options. Corporate level packages are much better, but I will get off topic here. As someone that works in the computing industry I know how the consumer level anti-virus packages can be below par and really cause headaches for the end user.
Back when we owned only one computer, McAfee was the internet utility software we used. In a word well, two words buy it. We still do. After my husband became a certified system engineer and our home network grew to rival that of some small companies, McAfee remained the brand we counted on. This is an excellent suite and a great value for money.
Not comprehensive, but focused instead on those who do a lot of internet surfing. You can't go wrong with McAfee. Easy to install, this security system will do the job without slowing your computer down to a crawl like some of the others I've tried.
It seems effective in protecting my machines from harm, but couldn't it do it without bogging down my computers so much. As owner of my equipment I agree to abide by software protocols. Strengths: Good at scanning for viruses and malware. If you're like me, you've spent much time with these consumer-level security software over the past few years.
Overall Evaluation: If you can get it to load, and get it to respond (even on a fairly quick computer it took forever), then it's a decent protection package. McAfee has "parasite" my unit so I had to rebuild. Kept crashing after roughly 9 months of use - customer service was terrible. You cannot escape. Scare.
Pretty bells sounds and graphs. Sooner you will delete essential files than remove McAfee from registry. I've experienced this FIRST hand. Weaknesses: Terrible load times and slow to respond. Mcafee has unveiled an improved UI, which makes the software easier to use. yup. Once their software GRABS your PC. Nightmare to update, renew, and if something goes wrong, another nightmare to uninstall.
Tons of features, easy to use. The software written not to be deleted. Poor Tech support. Can bog down system though not as bad as Norton Internet security suite.
However, if you really don't know a lot about protection programs or have a very short temper when it comes to computers, I suggest staying away - this package causes headaches and so does customer support. Chances are that your experiences were not entirely positive. Report and monitor internet attempts/ Hits on your PC. While offering some clear value to us, they normally come preloaded on computers and bombard you with notifications and updates, while draining valuable system resources (I HATE THAT don't you).
McAfee is different. As such, these programs have gotten a reputation for being bloated and inefficient, while free antivirus offerings, like AVG and Avast, have proven themselves to be worthy alternatives, at least for core features.
Installation took approximately 7 minutes and ran smoothly. Compared to such anti virus packages such as Trend Micro and Nortons, it does not significantly slow down my computer at start-up nor does it send questionable messages about what it did for my security. I also found the price reasonable (purchased for $39 at Amazon for 3 PCs).
I have installed this software for three weeks and have been quite satisfied. Highly recommended. I have purchased this antivirus/security software because of the high ranking from Consumers Report and positive feedback from sites such as CNET. I have a window VISTA Home Premium system with 2G ram and 160G hard drive.
I found this software easy to install without any problems. On installing I followed the instructions by first uninstalling all previous anti virus software and closing all other applications.
