He is actually a full time self employed carpenter, and really, given my choice I would have got him more professional software. However, for just ten dollars (including the shipping). I bought this product for my dad, who couldn't find his cd-rom of an older version of this same product. also it includes a landscape feature, which has my mom excited. my dad is very pleased with the software. i was able to get him the exact thing he wanted.
I have had version 3.0 for almost 10 years and I still use it today.
Now so dirt cheap, it is an outstanding value. You should first make sure that your operating system will be compatible.
Roof design takes some patience but you can do fairly complex roofs with practice. 3D rendering is not as realistic as current design software, but the design tools on this product are pretty much the same as newer products and probably easier to use than most.
I use it for initial design work on remodels for kitchens,bathrooms, basements, and additions.
For conceptual design work it is easy to learn and has a great set of features. If you want the best 3D rendering look for newer software, but if you just need an inexpensive, basic design tool this works very well.
3d. >> more than the basic snap on angles forces standard variance (45, 90 and 22.5 and such). You should read the manual though if you want hip roofs with gable ends (roofs are trickier than walls). It is good enough to get a 3d feel though. The newest version is Better Homes and Gardens Home Designer Suite 6.0 (much more expensive but has materials application options). >> more objects in its library (very limited). Definitely 5 "value" stars, you should be able to get it for under $10. Summary:. Its old but its as good as most of the more expensive "junk" for sale at home improvement and software stores. + does some good basic materials planning.
Overall even though it's a few years old and has a few problems I rate it 5 stars because its: DIRT CHEAP, fast, easy to use, good enough 3d rendering for space planning, allows 3d view object manipulation. >> better rendering (its rudimentary compared to cool tools available today). Outstanding product for the price.
The stair tools are fairly straightforward but do not allow curves. Design is Straightforward. About 3.0.
. It gets you up to speed with home design concepts very quickly and will get you diagrams you can build from faster than any other product I have seen. Versions: 3d home 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 are from the same company 5.0 is NOT the same and is incompatible.
